Etape 2 From Place de la Mairie, head down Rue Principale towards the church and the washhouse. After the wash-house, take the first path on your right.

The first château you see is not the least famous: Château Guiraud, after a 2km100 walk. It is the only 1er Grand Cru Classé in 1855 to be certified organic. You can visit it every day from 10am to 6pm, no appointment necessary.
Etape 4 After an 8km walk and over the next two kilometres, you will pass 4 other châteaux. The first is Château Lamourette, acquired in 1860 and handed down from generation to generation.
The second is Domaine de la Gauche. Its 6 hectares, spread over the communes of Bommes and Sauternes, border the parcels of Premiers Grands Crus, such as Tour Blanche.
The third château is undoubtedly one of the finest in the world.
The third château is undoubtedly the most famous of the three. It is Château de Rayne Vigneau. The château sits on a magnificent, unique slope overlooking the Sauternes region. Its style is one of intensity, freshness and length.

The last château in this sector is Château la Tour Blanche. Also classified as a 1er Grand Cru in 1855, like its predecessor, it is now a school of viticulture and oenology.
Etape 5 The tour ends with two châteaux classified as Second Growths in Sauternes in 1855. Château Lamothe Despujols, on your right, is both a Sauternes Grand Cru Classé and a family estate. This small estate culminates on the heights of the appellation.

Château Lamothe-Guignard rounds off your tour. Situated on one of the highest points in the Sauternes commune, it overlooks the Ciron valley and offers a panoramic view of the entire Sauternes region.

The golden wine flows through the Sauternes region, world-famous for its famous sweet white wines. The Sauternes region is crossed by the Ciron river. This modest tributary from the Landes region is ideal for astonishing canoe trips or delightful romantic strolls, but it also plays an essential role in the development of botrytis cinerea, which in autumn forms the basis of the great sweet wines described by Mauriac as “an exaggeration of the exquisite”.

The Sauternes region is a gentle discovery, rich in a thousand details, with its ubiquitous stone walls revealing the abundance of limestone just beneath the surface of the earth.
