On foot

South Gironde has numerous hiking trails to offer. Discovering the region on foot is an ideal way to enjoy the fresh air and notice the tiny details along your way…


Charming places such as the banks of the Ciron, the lakes of South Gironde, or the nature reserves are perfect for hiking! The Landes de Gascogne Regional Nature Park has lots of surprises in store for you…remember to bring your picnic!

Take to the cycle paths

In Bazas, Sauternes, Noaillan or Langon, pack a picnic and head off for a great day’s cycling!  With its green trails and cycle paths, South Gironde is a cyclist’s paradise! Discover the region from a different perspective by bicycle. In the vineyards of Sauternes or the lakes of the Domaine d’Hostens, different itineraries of varying difficulty await you. 


Don’t worry if you don’t have your own bicycle! You can hire bicycles with partners of the tourist offices, or in our offices in Langon, Noaillan, Castets et Castillon and Sauternes, and take to the charming paths of South Gironde!


Trek through the forest on horseback

If you are passionate about horse-riding, come to South Gironde! Saddle up and explore the lakes of Hostens and the forest of the Landes de Gascogne.

Take the routes of the Way of Saint James

If you are tempted by a pilgrimage on the way to Compostela, one of the four routes, the Vézelay Way, passes through Bazas and Captieux, two stopping-off points in South Gironde.


From La Réole to Captieux, these routes invite you to discover the heritage and forest of the Landes de Gascogne. You’ll find many refuges specially for pilgrims along the way!
