Cathédrale Saint Jean Baptiste de Bazas to Bazas
Languages spoken
The cathedral, the jewel in the crown of the city and a listed historic monument, has been the focal point of the city since the 5th century. The present-day cathedral, built from 1230 onwards on the basis of earlier monuments, has undergone two major disasters, with extensive destruction: the Wars of Religion and the Revolution of 1789, both of which left deep scars. The cathedral has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998, as part of the Pilgrim’s Way to Santiago de Compostela. Jardin du Chapître with archaeological excavations.
